Frequently Asked Questions

Why should we hire YOU to photograph us? B&W Youth Picture - Getting WellB&W Youth Picture - Getting Well

Why should hire me? Hmmmm, well that's the big question. Truth be told, I will take care of you as if you were my on family. I'll work closely with you to help develop a realistic budget, timeline and setting to make sure you have the greatest photo experience. My job is to capture those memories you want to keep and share for a lifetime, but also to help make your photo experience as stress free as possible.

What is your pricing?

Well, I guess that's the next big question and I fully appreciate the need to know. Because every photo experience is different, I don't list my photo session pricing on my website. Although I have a ballpark rate of $180 per hour, my primary goal is to work with you to develop an experience that works within your budget. I am always happy to discuss various options that will make the most of your investment. Also, for your convenience, I do provide you the ability to purchase your photos through my website in various affordable products and print formats.

Do you photograph on location or in a studio?

I have a small home studio that I use for studio portraits and headshots, however I prefer to photograph on location at your place of preference. This allows for a more custom, comfortable experience for you in a setting that you have already envisioned as a valued and creative part of your photographic memories.

How far will you travel?

Well, I currently live in Charlotte, NC and I love to drive. For local travel, generally speaking my travel costs are built into my session. For travel in which airfare, hotel and rental car are required, I simply ask that you cover the direct cost of those expenses.

Do you edit all of your photos?

Yes, I do!  Every photo your receive from me will be hand-edited, one at a time to ensure the highest quality output. Generally, I will choose a few favorites from the group to provide special attention and added detail for a more memorable experience.

Do you provide my photos to me in color or black and white?

This is a great question and I have learned that one of the best things I can do for you is provide the best situation for you to make a stress-free decision. For that reason, I have made it a practice to provide your final photos in both color and black and white.

Are your digital photos watermarked?

They are not. Your final high resolution digital photos will be free of watermarks.

How many photos will I receive?

The number of photos you receive will vary depending up many things, including the type of session, duration and collection you desire. For portraits, I offer a variety of collections for you to choose from that will include various sizes, counts and formats for final product. For special events, generally speaking for a 4-hour session, I will collect about 300 photo images from which I will select the best and present to you.

What if I don't want products, I only want the digital files?

Where I do understand this question, I recommend against this request for the simple reason that sorting through all of those files to make a selection to showcase is an arduous process. The reality is, you will only select a small handful of photos to showcase and never look at the digital files again. However, that said, should you truly only want digital files, I provide that as an option for you. It is important to note that I do retain the copyright to the images and retain the right to use them for promotional purposes, competition, professional review, etc.

Do you also provide video services?

Honestly, I like to stick with what I am best at, and that is capturing still images for you to display and share in print, web or however you desire. Although my camera equipment has the ability to take High Definition videos, I choose to leave that to those who excel at it. If needed, I am more than happy to arrange a videographer for your event, so that is one less thing you will need to worry about.

How long will it take to receive my prints after the shoot?

My goal is to have at least the top photos from the shoot to you within 2-3 working days following the shoot. I would then provide the remainder of the prints within 5-7 working days. If you would happen to need your prints in a shorter time, we would be able to negotiate a "rush" request, which would typically add additional cost to the project.

What is the "online gallery" you refer to in your collections?

The online gallery on my website is a private, password protected page in which all of your images will be housed for viewing and download (if download is something you we have arranged as part of your collection). This is a way for you and your family and friends to view and purchase photos in any number of formats and products directly through my website.

What kind of gear do you use?

I use a Canon 6D Mark II full frame camera with a variety of high quality lenses, including Canon 50mm f/1.4, Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8, Meike 85mm f/1.8, Canon 70-200mm f/4, and Tamron 150-600mm f/5-6.3. I have a battery grip with plenty of spare, charged batteries, and multiple lighting kits.

Do I have to order prints and/or products through you?

Generally speaking, all products would be purchased through me due to copyright. However if you would like to purchase products elsewhere, I am typically able to negotiate the release of the copyright to allow you to print for personal use.
